Josh Naylor (Mississauga, Ont.) has re-signed with the Seattle Mariners.

It’s a five-year contract worth $92.5-million, according to The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal.

The 28-year-old Naylor, who was a free agent, returns to the Mariners where he was one of the team’s best hitters and most popular players after being acquired from the Arizona Diamondbacks on July 24.

“I’m going to be a Mariner again and I couldn’t be more excited,” said Naylor in a statement issued by the Mariners. “From the moment I arrived, everyone in the organization welcomed and helped me. The players brought me in and loved my game right away, and the fans were incredible. Seattle has the best fanbase in baseball. They’re electric and support us through and through, and I couldn’t be more thankful for that. I can’t wait to continue to play with these guys and bring the city a championship.”

Following the season, the Mariners’ front office made it clear that re-signing Naylor was their No. 1 priority.

“From his first day as a Mariner, Josh has been a perfect fit on the field, in the clubhouse, and in our community,” Mariners Executive Vice President and General Manager Justin Hollander said in a statement. “We are thrilled that he will be with us for the next five seasons.”

After arriving from the D-backs, the 5-foot-10, 235-pound Naylor not only pounded the ball with the M’s – hitting .299 with nine home runs, 10 doubles and an .831 OPS in 54 regular season games – but he also tore up the base paths. He had 18 stolen bases with the M’s to finish with a surprising 30 on the season. He was at his best in September when he batted .364 and had a .982 OPS in 22 games.

His strong performance carried over into the postseason in which he batted .340 and had a team-leading 16 hits (three home runs) in 12 games.

Naylor also set several Canadian postseason records in 2025, including becoming the first Canuck to have four, three-hit games in the same postseason. In Game 2 of the American League Championship Series, he belted a two-run home run to become the first Canadian to homer against the Toronto Blue Jays in Canada in the postseason.

Combining his numbers between the D-Backs and the Mariners, Naylor topped all Canadian major leaguers in batting average (.295), RBIs (92) and stolen bases (30) in 2025. He also finished second among Canuck big leaguers in hits (160), runs (81), home runs (20), doubles (29) and walks (48).

He also became just the fourth first baseman in MLB history and second Canadian to record 20 home runs and 30 stolen bases in the same season (Larry Walker was the first with the Colorado Rockies in 1997).

All of this followed his outstanding 2024 campaign with the Cleveland Guardians in which he registered career-highs in home runs (31) and RBIs (108) and was selected to the All-Star Game.

In all, Naylor has batted .269 with 104 home runs in 745 games in seven big league seasons with the San Diego Padres, Guardians, D-Backs and Mariners.

After honing his skills with the Ontario Blue Jays and Junior National Team, Naylor was selected 12th overall by the Miami Marlins in the 2015 MLB draft. Following tenures in the Marlins and Padres organizations, he was traded to the Guardians, along with fellow Canadian Cal Quantrill (Port Hope, Ont.), on August 31, 2020.
