The Ottawa Titans have re-signed outfielder Jake Sanford after he was released by the Sioux City Explorers of the independent American Association.

The Titans announced the transaction on Tuesday.

The 25-year-old Cole Harbour, N.S., native batted eighth and played left field for the Titans last night in their 8-6 win over the New York Boulders at Ottawa Stadium. Sanford went 0-for-4.

Sanford was released by the Explorers after hitting .213 with two home runs in 47 games for them.

The Maritime slugger actually signed with the Titans in January but was dealt to the Explorers in the same month.

Sanford returns to the Titans after an All-Star campaign with them in 2022 that saw him lead the club in hits (112), home runs (22), RBIs (73), batting average (.311), and slugging percentage (.550).

Selected by the New York Yankees in the third round of the 2019 MLB draft out of Western Kentucky University, Sanford is the highest-drafted player ever from Nova Scotia. In 161 games in the Yankees organization – where he reached the High A level – Sanford hit .267 with 23 homers and 88 RBIs.

Sanford also played for Canada at the Pan Am Games Qualifier in June.
