Canadian Jim Henderson has been named the bullpen coach of the Milwaukee Brewers.

The Brewers announced his addition to their coaching staff on Tuesday.

The 39-year-old Henderson (Calgary, Alta.) takes over as bullpen coach for former Toronto Blue Jays’ first-round pick Steve Karsay, who recently stepped down to spend more time with his family.

Henderson was the pitching coach of the Brewers’ triple-A Nashville Sounds in 2021. In all, he has served as a pitching coach in the Brewers’ organization for four seasons, beginning as bullpen coach with the Rookie-ball Helena Brewers in 2018 prior to being promoted to the class-A Wisconsin Timber Rattlers in 2019.

Before his coaching career, Henderson, who was originally selected in the 26th round of the 2003 MLB draft by the Montreal Expos, pitched parts of three major league seasons with the Brewers from 2012 to 2014. The 6-foot-5 right-hander’s best campaign came in 2013 when he posted a 2.70 ERA and recorded 28 saves in 61 games.

He finished his MLB career by registering a 4.11 ERA in 44 appearances for the New York Mets in 2016.

Henderson, who honed his skills with the Okotoks Dawgs, also toed the rubber for the Canadian national team on multiple occasions, including for the gold medal-winning squad at the 2011 Pan Am Games. He also pitched for Canada in the 2013 and 2017 World Baseball Classics.

Along with Henderson, Matt Erickson, a longtime coach and manager in the Brewers’ organization, has been promoted to the position of infield instructor and assistant hitting coach.
