Here’s a summary of my three most popular posts on social media from this past week.

1. 37th anniversary of Dave Stieb becoming the first Toronto Blue Jays pitcher to earn an All-Star Game win.

Thirty-seven years ago this past Monday (see my tweet below), Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame inductee and longtime Toronto Blue Jays ace Dave Stieb hurled three hitless innings and allowed one unearned run to earn the win for the American League over the National League in the All-Star Game at Comiskey Park. Stieb also had a sacrifice bunt in the contest that the AL won 13-3.

Stieb finished the 1983 season with a 17-12 record and a 3.04 ERA in 278 innings over 36 starts for the Blue Jays. He tossed 14 complete games and four shutouts.

2. 15th anniversary of Adam Stern (London, Ont.) making his MLB debut.

Fellow Londoner Adam Stern made his big league debut 15 years ago this past Tuesday (See tweet below). Batting eighth and starting in centre field for the Boston Red Sox against the Baltimore Orioles at Camden Yards, Stern went 0-for-2 with a hit-by-pitch. In the sixth inning, he recorded his first MLB stolen base off Baltimore Orioles catcher Sal Fasano.

The Red Sox lost 3-1. Hitting ahead of Stern in the Red Sox lineup that game were David Ortiz and John Olerud. Former Blue Jay David Wells hurled a complete game for the Red Sox.

3. Andre Dawson turns 66 today.

Almost every Canadian baseball fan knows that “The Hawk,” who turns 66 today, was one of the greatest all-around players in Montreal Expos history. To read more about his big league accomplishments, here’s a link to his Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame bio.

But did you know he made two other professional stops in Canada before he was called up to the Expos?

See my tweet below.
