Message from Kevin Glew to Cooperstowners in Canada subscribers and supporters

This photo of Roberto Clemente with the 1954 Montreal Royals from the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame’s collection is what inspired the creation of this blog 11 years ago.

Dear Cooperstowners in Canada subscriber,

Thank you very much for supporting my Cooperstowners in Canada blog.

It’s greatly appreciated.

For over 11 years, I’ve been researching and writing articles about Canadian baseball history, Hall of Famers who played in Canada, Canuck big leaguers and former Toronto Blue Jays and Montreal Expos for this site, and for the most part, it has been a labour of love.

I’ve enjoyed sharing Canadian baseball trivia and shining the spotlight on lesser talked about players, managers and executives with links to Canada. But while I love writing about these subjects, it is “labour.”

The research takes time, so, too, does the writing and editing and the fees associated with hosting the site have increased. The COVID-19 pandemic has also had deep financial ramifications for independent, self-employed writers like myself. To say these past two years have been challenging is an understatement.

Simply put, if I don’t find a way to make money from this blog – and soon – it will not survive.

So I’m giving myself until the end of 2022 to make this site financially viable. This means you are likely going to see some differences in the blog posts.

For example, you might see more ads and sponsored posts (that are not written by me). I might also incorporate premium paid content into the site. And in the future, I may be offering opportunities for you to sponsor individual posts or pay a relatively small fee to include a holiday greeting (for birthdays, Father’s Day, Christmas, etc).

All the money-making possibilities will be on the table.

And if anyone out there has any other suggestions, I’m all ears. I’m a writer at heart, not a businessperson.

In the meantime, I have added a “Donations” button on the lower right side (you have to scroll down) of my home page, where you can contribute. I hate the idea of asking for donations, but I’ve been told to think of it as a “tip,” so I’ll go with that. That’s easier for me to digest.

If you don’t want to go through the site to make a donation, you can send it via Paypal directly to kevin.glew@sympatico.ca

The site will continue in 2022, but its survival will depend on its future financial viability.

Thank you again for your support.

Sincerely,

Kevin Glew
